C Drive Memory Full..help Pls!, How do you increase the memo

    Hi all!

Hope you can help me here, I work for a small company and we don't have an IT guy to deal with issues like this! (Company very tight with money!!) so I have been left with the job.

The problem the company has is the C:drive on the server is running low on memory.

The server is running Windows 2003 SBS

The server is a HP Compaq Xeon CPU 2.80ghz - 1Gb RAM

I looked on Disk Management and it has these stats:-

    Disk0
    Basic
    67.82GB

    C: drive
    10GB NTFS
    831 MB - Free space

    Drive (Data)
    57.82 GB NTFS
    21.34GB - Free space

I have done a Disk Frag, Disk Cleanup and Delete old files.

Can I buy more memory and add it to the C:drive? (My friend said that I have probably got Hot swapable disks)

    Is there any other options?

Thank you for reading and any help would be appreciated!

    Chris

You're getting memory and disk space confused by the sounds of it. You can't expand the capacity of a hard drive; if you have a 70GB hard drive, it will be a 70GB hard drive until the day it dies. The best you can do is either move some of the stuff off the C: drive onto another disk or buy a bigger hard drive and copy the contents (clone it) of the old one onto the new one.

The most sensible option is probably to move some stuff off the C: Drive onto the D:\ drive but without knowing what is on your machine it is difficult to suggest what. Doesn't SBS server have Exchange and ISA preinstalled on it?

Can do, if you have enabled those options, and have the premium edition for ISA

Try this tree size.. it has done many favours for me in the past, u may find that there are a few folders that you dont need and they are taking up too much space... like local accounts... grrr, that gets under my skin when people use their own log on to login to the servers. So much easier to use the admin account.

You can I believe make the disk dynamic and "stretch" the C Drive to another HDD

You can't make the C drive dynamic - any other you can. Be careful though, I trached the last server I tried that on - tested the Diasaster recovery plan!

You can move the Pagefile.sys file into the D volume which will give you about 1GB of extra space on C. There's a thread on here about it not so long ago - stick it in a search.

You can move the spooler folder too if you use the server as a print server.

Also check your backups, if these haven't been running, Exchange will have created lots of log files that won't have been cleaned up.

You can move the log files in System Manager.
