Take it you missed the PSPs in education stuff at BETT last year (assume it was there this year as well but as I didnt attend I cannot confirm) I know stuff is out there as our curriculum manager attended a conference where they demonstrated it.
hmm, I've already linked up a couple of our kids PSP's to the network. In my day consoles (Donky Kong etc) were banned now they are educational use?

Thanks for all the response so far!
The PDA thing isn't actually assigned to me or any of us in the techies dept. But I want to be able to have some pro/cons to the idea when they eventually lump it with us.

I'm no expert but there is loads of research going into the way handheld devices can revolutionise the learners experience. Unfortunately this lead by non technical practitioners that don’t always realise the technical difficulties or more to the point don’t invest in the tech support required to deliver the service. Because even if you not directly involved anything requiring bandwidth is going to take up your time

From the information I have gathered the biggest change is in the culture in the classroom and that due to the students “owning” the devices they tend to look after them far better and actually ask each other to solve a lot of the technical problems.

If the devices are coming anyway I would insist that SLT release you to see a technician in a school in Wolverhampton and get to the reality of how it all works in practise. Oh and they need to get you and your team devices now to test with…

We are going to ask for a test device, not only for the classroom idea, but also as we are thinking of getting a few for SIMS mobile stuff too

we to have been told taht we should have pda for all staff.

It will be used for registration via our CMIS system.

From an admin point of view we'd like to put in wired finger printer readers.

We've done some testing with wifi. it just dont work well.
