Hi Folks
We got a bit of a weird problem going on over here.
Just recently we have noticed that quite a few HP printers around school are automatically going to pause even though no one has instructed them to do so.
Majority of these printers are going through a Windows 2008 server and the server is the printer server and these printers all have IP's from the network.
We have 1 printer which isn't networked but instead is shared through a users PC and is in an office.
Occasionally they were just go to pause and sometimes you click on resume it will be fine. We have 1 printer though which refuses to go out of the pause state.
We have tried:
Latest driver installed (universal HP driver August 2010)
Remove the printer and reinstall the printer and it seems to be ok but then it pauses a bit later.
Has anyone seen an issue similar to this?
Thanks

23rd September 2010, 07:58 PM #3 Haven't had it with HP, but had an Oki which kept going offline, but this was Server 2003.
Had to remove the driver completely (Oki sent a utility across to do it), reboot the server and then try again.
Think I ended up doing ti twice in the end, but haven't had any problems since.
What pointed it at the driver in the end was installing it on a workstation using the same driver and settings and not having it go offline, although re-reading post don't know how viable that would be for you to do.

23rd September 2010, 09:58 PM #4 If you restart the Spooler service this should resolve the problems. Normally pausing can be caused by a driver issue.

I've had this issue before with Konica Minolta's. It was with a Windows 2008 servers only as 2003 has a hotfix from MS to fix the issue. I turned off the SNMP Status in the driver. Essentially this problem occurs due to communication between the device and the server taking to long and it times out. Server then decides the print doesn't exist any more and pauses it. Had it happen mostly at schools with VLans.
