CPU 100% but don't know why...

Quickly looking at a colleague's home PC for them. The CPU is maxed out at 100% and physical memory at 60%, but nothing shows up in Task Manager. The PC is well-specced (AMD Turionx2 64-bit 2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 100GB+ free C: space). Any suggestions?

Download Process Explorer from Microsoft - It will give you a better idea of what is going on.

I've seen 'disinfections' of viruses that have left machines in this sort of state, because they haven't removed certain dll's or processes!

    Good call, Mr Ben.

I think werfault.exe (Windows fault reporting) was conflicting with some "PC doctor" thing she has installed. Disabled automatic reporting and the PC doctor, and it is now idling around 19% (still a bit high, but acceptable).
