Anyone got any RoboCopy GUI example scripts they have used to migrate users data over to a SAN or other source ? If so - care to share ?

    GUI is for WIMPS ;-)
robocopy is dead easy to use from the command line
Right, depends on your SAN/NAS, if you want to do a live migration, do
    Code:
    robocopy source destination /MIR
    and just leave it running
This will mirror the share you are moving, once it's synched you can point your users to the new location and when happy everyone is across stop robocopy.
If you don't want to do it live, do:
    Code:
    robocopy source destination /E /ZB /COPYALL /DCOPY:T
some NAS/SAN don't like the NTFS ACL being copied across, in that case:
    Code:
    robocopy source destination /E /ZB /COPY:DATO /DCOPY:T
If someone updates a file, on the two above, just run it again and it will copy across any updated or new files.

I take it the top one [ with the /MIR switche ] copies the NTFS ACL ? I'll give it a go when I have setup the SAN.

Don't know if the ramblings I put on this blog so I knew they were somewhere safe is of any use for you?

The other thing I might suggest (which is what RM did at my old school) was to backup the user areas and just restore the backup to the SAN.
