Has anybody seen this before? (see attachment)
We have got a laptop which fails to update from Microsoft's site, I have trawled Microsoft's looking for a solution, nothing works.
So eventually restored the laptop from restore disk, still fails to update with the same message.
Any ideas?

Just a suggestion: -
Check the date and time on the laptop. I've seen this happen on one of mine where the time & date was way out.

Also make sure you set the proxy with 'proxycfg' if you have no direct net access.

Re: Windows Update
If your ISP is embc, then the solution is with them! We have had this problem and contacted them, and they are aware of the problem. To test this, try the laptop using a 172 ip address. If that works, that it is embc!

I`ve had this problem when the Temp. Internet Files folder didn't have enough free space to store the downloaded files. Either delete the folder content or increase the size of the folder then try again.

Didn't even think about EMBC.
