OK came in this morning and Exchange had gone down.. database files corrupted and could not restore.., so decided to uninstall and reinstall exchange (2003)
Deleted all the mailboxes in AD (mailboxes, DL's, etc..)
Tried to select "Remove" in Exchange and was told that mailboxes were still being used... Hmm..
Searched AD.. no sign of any mailboxes..
Have even tried deleting the mailbox store from ESM but still no good..
Anyone got any ideas?

Yep, along with eseutil no joy - cant even uninstall the bugger now..
Have had to do a messy uninstall.. (setup /removeorg, then delete the org with ADSIEdit..
Rebootiing the server and gonna try and install again...

A similar thing happened to me. I couldn't get rid of it using the uninstall routine, in the end I removed it manually.
Procedure here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833396

gre: :violent1:
thats it i give up - Exchange refuses to co-operate
Have un-installed it (after spending 3 hrs finding hidden mailboxes!) several times.. but weach install gives the same error
"Corrupted files in database" each time i try to mount the store..
deleting the store and .edb file has no effect

Re: Exchange Mailboxes..
Strong chance that it is not the information store - but one of the log files. Delete the log files then run ESEUTIL /P

Did all that - still went tits up.. think it was the installation of EXchange SP2 that screwed it all up.
Have installed it fine on another server for now, though gonna look at maybe trying to get Ex 2007 x64 when we get new budgets..

You're right... I wouldn't last 10in with no email... it has become such an important part of the working life of the school that they would be crippled without it...

The kids had only just started using it when the server went down. so there was no real loss.. its purely internal with no external access.
Installed in on a new server fine, and got journaling enabled!
now the journalling account is getting hammered and I need to go on a course3 on how to speak txtspeak! 8O
Also need a way to easily shut down / start up all the services...
