IE7 - Opens then closes immediately. IE6 and IE8 work
Background: I Recently had to roll one of my clients back to IE7 because one site that they use is only compatable with IE7 (not 6, 8, or FireFox).
Issue: Whenever they attempt to open IE7, it flashes on the screen momentarily then closes. IE6 and IE8 do not have this issue. I am unable to open the IE control panel item (inetcpl.cpl) from any location or in any mode when IE7 is installed. Any ideas?
Troubleshooting:
(1) Removed IE7, ran registry cleaners, rebooted, ran registry scans again and re-installed
(2) Removed IE7, re-set the IE settings, rebooted, reinstalled
(3) Re-registered all IE7 DLL's
(4) Installed IE8, reset IE settings, rebooted, removed IE8, rebooted

Did you try the compatibility mode?
I got the same thing when IE7 come out. The only thing i found to fix it was installing SP3 when it come out.

6th May 2010, 04:57 PM #3 Try uninstalling any classroom monitoring software as a test, as these can cause all sorts of issues should the default browser change.
Id also configure a test student with no profile to see what happens to see if its a mandatory profile issue.
