USB mouse freezes after a few seconds
Bit of a long shot, but I wondered if anyone had seen this before. Just been installing Syncrosoft (Cubase) dongles on a set of Windows XP PCs, and one of them seems to have messed up the USB mouse. You can plug it in and it will work for about 2 seconds before it becomes unresponsive. Move it to a different port and you buy 2 seconds more, but you can't use the same port twice.
Tried different mice, uninstalling/reinstalling syncrosoft and mouse drivers, system restore, will have to wipe the darn thing and start again unless someone has any bright ideas...

Does it work if you plug it in another machine?
Sounds like its shutting down the USB port due to overloading the usb power rail. Pull the motherboard connectors ,and disconnect all usb devices, to any case mounted USB's as it might be a collective thing.
If it works on another machine, then it might be the motherboard has been damaged due and now cannot reliably power usb devices. If you are desperate you could invest in a PCI USB card as these can power the case USB connectors and will at least provide a temporary solution untill the machine is replaced.
