Hi, I have to do a VERY quick inventory of the pcs/laptops at our school. With over 100 serial numbers to get, is there any piece of software that will tell me these quickly?
We have a windows 2000 server, with XP clients. Mix of laptops and desktops.
Many thanks!

24th March 2010, 03:18 PM #3 It sure does, providing all machines are on, just download spice works and do a network scan.

24th March 2010, 03:24 PM #6 Though be aware that not all manufacturers put the serial number in BIOS and may find it returns 'Serial Number'
Discovered a while ago that NEC dont do this (at a completely NEC site) so had to walk around anyway and enter them manually

24th March 2010, 03:58 PM #10 Fog's hardware inventory task will also do this if you happen to use it as your imaging solution.
If not, i agree with the spiceworks option

Thanks- I do use FOG for imaging, but it didn't have all the details for all the pcs unfortunately. Perhaps I didn't do a full inventory when adding the machines to the FOG server.

OpenAudit
OpenAudit will also provide that info to you as well as a bunch of other info. You can push the audit out from a GPO as well. I use it as well as spiceworks

24th March 2010, 08:27 PM #15 I found spiceworks far too unwieldy and slow.
Lansweeper is much more lightweight, extensible and provides far more information
