File Screening on R2/ sending email notification

I have set up file screening on the pupils Home drives to stop certain files being saved. I have set up the SMTP server to point at oor exchange box and configured it to send me an email. When i use the 'send test email button' it works perfectly.

Then i noticed a few errors in Even Log telling me that that if could not send the email because of SMTP errors. I have Auditing set on File Management to log if anyone tries to save a banned file and then it should auto send me an email. But the even log is coming up with SMTP errors but the 'test email works perfectly.

Any ideas or am i missing something.?

Indeed... I got around it by disabling 'Basic Authentication' on the SMTP Virtual Server in System Manager. AFAIK you shouldn't need this if you only use MAPI clients, OWA and possibly Windows clients.

Having the same problem, does anyone have the hotfix? It annoys me when Microsoft refuse to let some be downloaded...I mean whats the point?

Ric I would try your solution but I have no idea where you're referring to?

edit: actually are you referring to Exchange?

We've not got exchange, why am I getting this problem?

@sidewinder: Perhaps your SMTP server requires authentication?

Doesnt normally, not in Outlook anyway
Also other apps such as Backup Exec and Sophos send email alerts through it fine
