I have deployed a printer using GPO & pushprinterconnections.exe. The printer loads on the client pc but it says unable to connect. When you try to open the printer you get the error "Operation could not be completed. The Print Spooler service is not running". When I look in services the print spooler is running (set to Automatic). Any ideas on how I can resolve the problem.
A few points to try.
Try restarting the spooler, run in cmd "net stop spooler && net start spooler"
Also what crediential is the service starting with?
Try removing the printer restarting the spooler and adding it again.
Try adding the printer manually, does the same happen?
Have you got the address to the printer if it is networked correct?
Are the drivers up to date on both the server and workstation, if not get the latest ones!
Try adding the printer if it is networked using the following
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n \\ServerName\PrinterSharedName
net stop spooler && net start spooler
The /GA is GloballyAdd change that to /GD to globallyDelete the printer.
You can run this cmd remotely also as below:
RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /c \\MachineName /y /n "\\ServerName\PrinterSharedName"
If none of them work post again with more info on server type printer type more info the better.
