Strange Explorer shortcut problem
Had this reported before half term and thought it was just an isolated incident untill I saw it myself today on a separate PC. Internet Explorer had been misbehaving for a couple of pupils so I exited the program and tried restarting IE..simple task except when I double clicked the I.E. icon it just created a shortcut on the desktop!!!! no matter how many times I tried it just created shortcuts! Shut the PC down in the end and of course did not get the chance to go back and see if it was fixed (thats tomorrows first job). Anyone come across behaviour like this before. Not a specific mouse problem as on a different PC to that it was first reported on, if it helps they are running XP Sp2 with IE8 and all the security patches and updates.

You see that happening when installing IE7. But it only does it straight after you install it (before reboot) and stops once you reboot the machine.
Anything in the event viewer??

There's a thread on here somewhere about this behaviour. Have tried to find it for you but my search skills are obviously not up to it, sorry.
Edit: Found it IE7 Desktop Icon Creates Shortcut (Help)
Hope that helps.
