There was a recent post on this where somebody has written a script to do it. have a quick search and you will find it.
thanks Chris i'll have a look now
Cheers
would i be right in thinking that to install a font you mearly need to copy the .fon or .ttf file into the fonts folder... usually somthing like windows\fonts
in which case you could make a MSI using a free msi maker like http://www.advancedinstaller.com/
No I dont think its as simple as that when trying to automate installation.
The script made by SYSMAN_MK here icludes adding information to the registry as well.
When there was a font i needed i just did a "snap shot" before and after with an MSI Maker (Winstall), i copy and paste the font into the c:\windows\fonts dir. It worked for me.
it definately doesn't work copying and pasteing the font into c:\windows\fonts
as i tried that using the batch login script previous to asking on here copies it accross ok but then it doesn't register with word.
cheers
You need to reboot the machine. They'll show up after that.
The problem with just copying them is that windows does not register them. They need to either be installed as normal via an admin user or copied and then accessed via an admin user to create the reg entries.
My script copies the files and creates the reg entries at the machine startup. After a restart non admin users can see the fonts with no need for any admin logons.
As I said, windows will register new fonts on boot.
Not without the reg entries entered manually too.
Just copying the file remotely and rebooting will not make the fonts availible
Yes it will. WinXP scans it's fonts folder on boot.
Well try it for yourself Geoff.
Remote copy a new font to a PC. Then go and restart that PC, login and start Word. I think you will find the font is not their.
Not until you browse to the fonts folder and open the font file.
Works fine.
