Windows Thread, Installation issue - NTVDM CPU in Technical; Hi All...
*waits for the 'oh no! another newbie' groan*
ok, thats out of the way...
I'm having a problem ...
I'm having a problem installing a few programs on a newly rebuilt Laptop. Specifically a Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100. I've only installed the minimum drivers (anything XP SP2 doesn't pick up automatically) and run a full windows update, and office 2003.
If I run some particular install programs, one of them being the wssetup.exe of the standard SIMS *Arrgggg* installation, I get the following error :-
Code:
16 bit Windows Subsystem
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:020c IP:0115 OP:0f 00 00 00 00 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
This box has 2 options, Close and Ignore. Close will close the error, and Ignore will close the error and bring up a new one, with the same text but a different address. It does this on loop. i've clicked ignore around 30 times to see if it clears, but sadly it doesn't
I've already done a google for this, and done a spyware scan and a full sophos scan on the pc, based on search results, both scans were negative.
Anyone got any bright ideas to try, that isn't rebuilding the machine and going driver by driver, testing the affected install kit(s)? if It comes down to it, i'll do this, but i'd rather not.
