    Re: IE7 available

Now I'm not seriously going to attempt this on one of my live systems but presuming I wanted to do an upgrade. How can I deploy IE7 and will the existing IE6 GPO settings still work? Or will I need new ADM templates or have to use the IE7 IEAK?

Should be coming out in a few works via AU, so should be availble via WSUS servers as well.

Don't know GPO setting still work, would be nice for someone to try it out, might have ago myself later on if I get some time.

I suspect that all of the GPO settings that existed in IE6 and still exist in IE7 will still work. If you want to set IE7 specific settings, you will need to install IE7 on a machine and edit the GPO from that machine, at least until a seperate ADM template is available.

IE7 will be available for deployment from WSUS at some point so you will be able to disable it or enable it at will.

Personally speaking, as soon as I have verification from companies like Bromcom that it won't break anything, I intend to get it deployed ASAP.

    Re: IE7 available

I've been using IE7 since beta 1. It works really well - I love it.
The only concern I have is that last time IE updated through AU it crashed out on loads of the PCs and messed them up.

I am planning on blocking it through AU with this tool and installing it manually over the half term. I've already tested everything we use IE for and they all work with no problems.

Hmm. I downloaded the .exe installer and decompressed it. No sign of an msi. MS aren't making this easy! :P

    Re: IE7 available

All the IE6 stuff works in IE7 when I used it.

The IE7 ADM stuff that I have seen allows you to mess around with the zones more and it obviously has the ability to turn off the feeds and enable the mene bar which I find is essential.

There does seem to be lots and lots of new policies, can't see them being used though.

Don't forget the IEAK of course: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...7/default.mspx

I'm going to try installing it on a row of computers during lunch and pop the adm in too quickly...

EDIT: ah.... there is no adm yet ops:

    ....maybe not then lol

    Re: IE7 available

Just made a custom IE7 package to try out...

You can semi-lock-it-down to some degree so that if you want to give it a try out and while you wait for the adm templates to become available, you can hehe

    It's how i did it mainly on the old 98 PC's with 5, 5.5 & 6.

    Cheers

    Re: IE7 available

Well, this is the method I've cobbled together to do an automated installation for IE7:

    Download the IEAK
Create a customised installer which is completely silent and forces a reboot after installation.
Copy that to a fileserver somewhere.
Create a WMI filter which finds all machines with IE6 (select * from MicrosoftIE_Summary where Version LIKE "%6.0%")
Create a GPO which runs the executable created by the IEAK as a startup script. Apply the WMI filter to this GPO
    Reset the computer.

It's not especially elegant but hey, it works.

    Re: IE7 available

I don't think many people here would find that an acceptable solution at this point in time.

However, installing firefox would be a reasonable compromise. With the corporate firefox project tools you can centrally deploy and manage your firefox installs aswell.
