    Movie Maker replacement

I'm looking for a Movie Maker replacement and i'm wondering if anyone has found anything that is free or cheap that is comparable to i-movie

I'm going to take a look at AVS Video Editor, any better suggestions.

Its not cheap, but i bought sony vegas for the media studies suite. Its rock solid and stopped the teachers nearly have a breakdown trying to use movie maker.

We found movie maker mainly has problems with MPEG2 videos, (codec related)

We use Adobe Premiere Elements here as an alternative to Movie Maker.

vegas is a quality product, have you ever used acid? ( the software not the other thing its a video version of acid.

I was supposed to show the teacher how to use it, but never had to in the end, if that says anything!

What's wrong with movie maker? If you are thinking it isn't on windows 7 you can install it seperately

I've installed it on Win7 at home but it's a cut down version that's been simplified for 'family' use (apparently). The staff are complaining that it's not as good as i-movie and it's missing certain features and transitions so i'm looking for something better.

What version are you using and how stable is it? I've had v2.0 on my computer for a while and just waiting for v8 to arrive.

Still using 2.0 with no issues - will probably look at upgrading in the summer.

    video spin

Free video editing software download lets you edit and upload your movies for free - VideoSpin - Create your own movie clips in minutes!

You get a trial and I think you only have to pay about 6 or 7 quid after that just for the codecs

Short of that then I would look into adobe software

List of free and open source software packages - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    some opensource stuff from wikipedia

Post Advice on Video Editing SW

    Hi all,

Have been reading the posts here, but was wondering about a replacement for Movie Maker (free please!) for our school.

We have just purchased some fantastic new video cams, which use a memory stick to store the video files. But they are MPEG, and Movie maker doesn't like them!

    Any ideas on alternatives please....

    Cheers.

VideoLAN Movie Creator looks like it will be the perfect Windows Movie Maker replacement (once it is released that is) since it will support all the formats that VLC Media Player does and will also be free.
