Right, i dropped a right one today. I was supposed to delete a old member of staff from AD today but deleted the old one by mistake. I hve check Exchange system manger and the mail box is still in htere mailbox store.
What i want to know is a idiot proof guide to getting it all back working agai,
I know i can add another user with exactley the same name but how do i go about getting that new user topick up the mailbox.
Can some one give me a idiot proof guide to get me out of the sh*t.

Can you export the contents of the mailbox with exmerge?

Its on the exchange CD iirc, it lets you export/import mailboxes to and from pst files (Outlook 2000, not 2003 pst files). I use it to move move the mail when a user has two seperate account and they want email on their other account. I have not tried it with a deleted user however, it does list the mailboxes on the exchange server though.

I mean the pst version that it uses is only the same as the one in Office 2000, it doesn't matter if you are going to export with exmerge as it creates the pst as an Office 2000 version.

run mailbox cleanup on the storage group in question
then right-click the mailbox, and one of the options will be to re-connect the mailbox to an account. Take that as a suggestion, and follow the suggestion.

Re: Recover a deleted uses mailbox.
you can only add the mailbox to an account that has no exchange attributes though...took me hours to work that one out when I had to do it!
so, recreate the user with the correct name, username etc. but DON'T exchange-enable them. Then reconnect the mailbox through ESM
