    Can't print from publisher

Having a problem in Textiles with the printer they're using to print t-shirt transferrables. (HP officejet k5400)

Test pages work ok, printing from word/excel/powerpoint work ok, but printing from publisher just goes nowhere! Doesn't even show up in the printer queue.

It's a local printer, with fully updated drivers. I've tried it on 3 different machines (the old one, a freshly built one and a spare laptop), all doing the same thing...

I can't imagine it being a memory/spooler issue as I have tried printing new publications that are just the standard templates and they have the same issue

I've also tried printing directly to the printer but that didn't do anything either.

Also tried a different usb cable but that didn't help either...

    Any idea's?

    Cheers,

    Dom

Do you have Office SP3 installed?

There was a bug (still might be!) in Publisher that wouldn't allow you to print to a printer that wasn't present when the original file was created, i.e. created on machine A with printer A installed, take file to machine B with printer B installed and it wouldn't print.

I think SP3 cured this 'feature'.

If you use Microsoft Update instead of Windows Update, it will detect if you are fully SP'd.

Sounds like yet another Publisher/print driver issue to me. Publisher is notorious for these sort of problems.

One work around I have used in the past is to create a new doc on the PC being used for printing and then copy and paste the contents across to the new doc. A bit messy but does the job in an emergency.

We have had this issue. Other office apps printed fine but publisher failed.
We fixed it by resetting all our printer drivers on the desktops using a script that runs once only on boot. Now in future we are going to re-enable the script each time we change/update printer drivers.
If you want I can upload the script. To test it go to the pc and remove all the queues listed (expect adobe pdf etc) then goto services and restart the print spooler. Go back to the printers window and right click->sever properties then switch to drivers tab and remove all the drivers. Re-add the queues using your scripts/method and see if it works then.

    This worked for us:

File > Print > [Advanced Print Settings] > Page Settings tab, untick "Crop marks" and "Allow bleeds".

Hmm, doesn't work from office at all after the service pack update! Unticking those settings didn't work either...

I have managed to print it by converting it to a pdf using pdf complete, but this has added a watermark as its a demo copy!

Converting it to a web publication prints about 1/10th of the page :-(

    I hate printers.

Did you restart the machine after installing the SP?

Try resetting the drivers etc as per my post. When we printed to PDF and then used acrobat the print out would work for us too.
