Hi guys. Due to outside control I am having to upgrade to v5 of sophos. Em console is fine but when I try and remote install Sophos to a client I am getting the follwoing event error and update failed
Any ideas?Code:Product: Sophos Remote Management System -- Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action RunClientMRInit, location: C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Management System\ClientMRInit.exe, command: -logpath "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\\" -filepath "C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Management System\\"
Try manually uninstalling version 4 then run it again.
Well uninstalled all sophos from the server and deletes any folders left. had to manually delete autoupdate services.
Reinstalled Sophos EM Console and Library. Done a remote install to the server, worked fine. Forced an update now getting the follwowing
Product: Sophos Remote Management System -- Error 1306.Another application has exclusive access to the file C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Management System\ALC\Logs\ALC-20061010-094555.log. Please shut down all other applications, then click Retry.

Grrrrr
is this happening on all machine sor just a couple?
i've had something similar to this happen on a couple and i ended up having to take them off the domain and then back on again and for some reason that works not entirely sure why though, but i'm not one to argue!
sorry i didn't read your second reply properly. have you checked all permissions on that specified folder as sophos uses its own usernames like sweepupd and emmanager or something along those lines check the permissions to see if anything is overriding that due to remote install needing to read from that share and using the username you specified for install!
When upgrading to Sophos v6 I find the best way is to completely uninstall Sophos v4. Then manually install v6 from the server share.
He's upgrading to V5 - but the routine is the same
I presume all the correct sophos srvices are running?
I've had that on a few computers that had viruses.
v5 is obsoloete. Everyone should be running v4 or v6.Originally Posted by alan-d

I don't understand why this has so many problems. Seems to update software now means to make it bloated and awkward. Not only is there sophos AV but also Autoupdate + RMS to deal with.
I have problems with autoupdates due to autoupdate locking logfiles so RMS fails to run.
Also on machines it does install to still dont appear in the Console. Just grey with no bloody info.
