I'm currently trying to install iTalc on to a teacher laptop.
I have been success in installing the client on the student machines and already install the master application on another machine so I know that the msi packages I've made work fine and iTalc as a whole works.
The keys for iTalc are located on a share on the network that everyone has r/w access to.
The problem I have is after I install the package and try to load up iTalc master program I get the following error:
iTalc service not working:
There seems to be no iTALC service running on this computer or the authentication-keys aren't set up properly. The service is required for running iTALC. Contact your administrator for solving this problem.
There is a balloon that popups up as well saying:
Somebody (IP: 127.0.0.1) tried to access this computer but could not authenticate itself successsfully!
Has anyone else had this problem?
I checked that the service is running and it is. And the machine is authenticated to see the public key in the share. And reg entry is pointing to the correct place.
This is really annoying because I have another machine with same setup and it just works.
Have you tried copying the key folder from the machine that works to the machine that doesn't work? (C:\Program Files\iTALC\keys).
Check if the location of the keys (public and private) is the same.
Check this also in the registry, HKLM, Software, iTALC Solutions, iTALC and then under keypathsprivate and the keypathspublic.
And check if the teacher laptop is in the domain, this must be so, otherwise the teacher's laptop cannot connect to the keys on the network.
Good Luck!![]()
both machines point to the same network share. They don't have the key locally.
copied the key to local folder and it worked.
Thanks
Hi Mike,
It's probably better to change the location in the registry to the network location (on the teacher's laptop). When you create new keys, the italc master application, again will not work.
Good Luck!
the key on the network share worked when I installed it on the first teacher machine. i setup the network share exactly for the reason you stated.
But when I installed the software on the second teacher machine and pointed it to the network share i got message as stated in my first post.
Hi Mike,
I think i understand what went wrong.
Did you import the "italc_dsa_key.pub" key, during the installation on you teacher laptop, or did it generate new ones? (This key can be found on the computer wich you installed italc for the first time) This is namely the key wich is produced on the master "server", wich connects al the clients and teacher clients.
Then adjust the reg keys to the network location and it should work through the network.
Have a good weekend!
