    Checking Hotmail with Outlook Express

Someone just rang me and said that until recently they were using Outlook Express to check their Hotmail. I thought that MS stopped that ages ago and made you use Live Mail, is this not the case?

    Thanks.

Oh ok. Well I suppose I should look into why it's stopped then

    Code:
First message: "Unable to poll for new messages etc - server response forbidden, server error 998, socket error 87" Second Message: " Access to account was denied, verify your user name and password are correct"
    Any ideas?

The way I heard was you have to pay to be able to use the premium service which has server access outside of live.com......

That was the case with Hotmail Premium but its all scrapped since it all became Live Mail/Wave (something or other) and pop3/smtp is free.

Or you could just wait - There is a possibility that MS are having issues with their pop servers or there is heavy load and it possibly might just work as normal tomorrow.

They say it's been a few days now. I'm wondering if I should suggest LiveMail that doesn't require any setting up.

Just had a quick test myself, I set up hotmail in Outlook 2007 - Could send via smtp but not receive. Could be authentication problems maybe?

Could be a major schoolboy error but live uses pop3.live.com instead of pop, contrary to alot of sites I just found. Give that a go works on my iphone

No problems here - had all 3 of my Hotmail accounts going through Outlook Express for a long while now - very handy!
