    Scrolling Bulletin Board

    :?:

    Hi all,

Our deputy head is setting up a plasma screen in the staff room that he wants to display an electronic version of the weekly bulletin on. The PC it connects to is to be networked.

Does anyone know of some software that could create scrolling messages that could be easily updated and/or scrolled automatically. For example a web style form that automatically forwards the new message for a set period of time.

I don't want to have to create a PowerPoint and update it all the time :-(

    Cheers for any suggestions.

There have been several posts recently relating to digital signage systems with some plugins for powerpoint so that it automatically updates when it's been altered so you could use that and just update the slides that need it. Or someone else can.

I've played with Infojection in the past.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/infojection/

It only works on Linux though.

You can point powerpoint to a web page too and update that.

    Procyon Information Displays
In my previous school we had software from this company for our plasma screen in the reception area.
They designed the artwork for us, all we had to do was input the text and times to run the text.
Think this cost around £2k altogether though.

This is what we use, works a charm and runs on linux. You set it up using a web interface:

sourceforge has a number of screensavers that can display an RSS feed.

We'll be using Dave's AV Screensaver (on SF) to display videos, images, flash videos and audio tonight for open evening. It uses .Net to control windows media player.

    Re: Scrolling Bulletin Board

We have a simple .php website for our screens which means we can import text, movie, clips, powerpoints etc into them. It is set to refresh every 60 mins so it picks up the latest information relatively quick.
