We are having a problem with usb memory sticks. When pupils plug in their usb memory sticks XP recognises this and installs the software but does not mount a drive letter, has anyone else come across this and is there a way round it?

Yeh, it's usually because it's mapping the device to a drive letter already in use, usually their H: drive.
Usually logging in as Admin and changing the drive letter and logging out sorts it.

Also... if you hide drives using a GPO it will appear as if the drive hasn't been mounted when in fact it has![]()

If you run usbdlm on your machines you can control which drive letter usb devices mount too and also multi slot readers can be mounted in folders instead of using one drive letter for each slot.
