Hi.
Are you running setup via the command line, with switches, or double clicking on a setup.exe?
If it's the former, what is the command line you are using?
If it's the latter, please paste the contents of your setup.ini here.
attached is the setup.ini from msde
no it's not.![]()
ill try again, right ok..
Lovely, thanks. It looks OK though!
Have you by some chance already got MSDE installed on that machine? If you install it and then run the install again, this is the error that pops up.
Have a look at Services under admin tools and see if you have one in there called "MSSQLSERVER".
its a brand new installation of server 2003 and msde has not been installed on there before lol
Hmmm.
I have had a bit of a play with this app in the past and have only ever seen this error under the circumstances described, unfortunately!
You say it's a brand new Windows install - is it an install that you personally have performed, and is there any other software on the machine (e.g. backup software)? The reason I ask is that some software installs also install MSDE (although admittedly it's unusual to install to a default instance under these circumstances - am clutching slightly!).
Did you double check the services list?
while i am trying to install the msde 2000, this "the instance name specified is invalid" error has come. anybody help me how to install the msde 2000. pls help me as early as possible.
regards,
Mano L
