Hi All,
I have a problem where our filtering has recently changed it is not letting any emails send/recieve unless the pop/smtp is set to the ip address of the county mail server and not its host name! All the users mail accounts currently have the pop/smtp set to mail.wsgfl.org.uk but it needs to be the ip.
Can i set up a forwarder in my DNS to point any requests for mail.wsgfl.org.uk to the ip address?? If so how??
Cheers
Dan

Because it's a firewall, so it's probably sitting between him and the internet. I would however think it could be addjuested to solve this.

so you cant create a rule in smoothwall to allow for dns resolution of the email servers hostname to ip address or for internal servers or something ?
That or use GPO to apply settings for IE to not use the proxy for resolution for either the ip address or the hostname of the email server if you use IE for accessing emails otherwise if you use a client ie outlook then thats a different story ( possibly )

14th September 2009, 10:12 AM #7 I have set the rule up in Smoothwall under the static DNS but it doesnt work and after a support call to smoothwall they have said to create an alias on my dns server to point all requests for mail.wsgfl.org.uk to the ip address. I have never had to do this before can anyone give me a hand as how to do this
Oh and just to through a spanner in the works if it makes a difference we use a 192.168.*.* ip range and county is 172.21.*.*
