We have the old IE7 crashing randomly bug on a couple of PCs. I'm out of ideas!
Vanilla Network, XP Pro SP3
Unintall and reinstall IE7 does not have an affect.
Removing SP3 has no effect.
Removing all toolbars and add-ons has no effect.
Even a repair from XP CD has no effect.
It is not profile related.
No specific program seems to be responsible, even Adobe, Flash, Policy Central etc
No Malware\Spyware or Viruses present.
No specific errors recorded anywhere, just the usual 'The instruction at "insert code" referenced memory at "insert code" .......... blah blah, iexplorer.exe error etc etc etc!
Rebuilding or re-imaging the PCs will probably cure it but is a cop-out, I want to know why it does it and what the fix is.
Any suggestions or discoveries since the last thread on this?
Reinstall Flash. Seems to solve the problem more often than not .......... no idea why!!!

Thanks but I did that and shockwave. I've uninstalled and reinstalled just about everything![]()
Tried updating to IE8?

IE8 is an option but we also use Policy Central and from bits I've picked up the 2 don't like each other.
tried disabling all active x components see what happens then, or run IE without addons

uww my bad i forget to read the middle of posts.

If it's any consolation the same/similar things are happening where I am today too. There are times where browsing is fast and other times where browsing times out completely. I have a feeling that not all BGFL problems have been ironed out. There are still some gremlins in the network somewhere.

I don't think this is related to BGFL as it's a widely reported problem. Plenty of forums discuss it but no definitive cure![]()

One problem I have noticed today (definitely BGFL related) is downloading files occasionally stops and doesn't complete. Other times it works fine. This is from different sources using IE7/IE8. The browser definitely isn't crashing as you can continue to browse as normal once you cancel the download. Take the laptop home and it works straight away so something isn't right.
If it is a seperate issue, do the event logs reveal any useful information? Sometimes they can provide additional information to the errors you see on screen. You could try removing the latest IE security update within Add/Remove programs, although as you've already tried repairing and uninstalling/re-installing IE, this would remove any additional IE security updates anyway.
Is it the same model of PC you're having problems with by any chance? What happens if you use an alternative browser as a temporary workaround?
I would uninstall Policy Central from the computer and see.... It's been causing no end of trouble here, with crashing IE, even though we dont use any of the web features of PCE.
PCE support haven't been too helpful with a fix.

Weird i wish i had a machine it was happening on to Experiment. I like little projects like that
Everything works fine in FF, even the download issue you mentioned seems to work better in FF.
There is nothing in the event logs and I've tried the removal of Security updates etc.
It is the same model type of PC that seems to be affected but only a select few. (4 that we know of). Going to try a new image on them soon.
I've done this once already but I'll try it again.

I'm using PC 3.0.0.7 which seems to be fine to me. Earlier versions did create various problems I agree. The best advice I can offer is to provide as much information as possible. Basics such as OS, browser version, any applications open, what website you were trying to look at. All this can be used to isolate the problem.I would uninstall Policy Central from the computer and see.... It's been causing no end of trouble here, with crashing IE, even though we dont use any of the web features of PCE.
