Rejoining XP client to Domain
Hi
I have an XP client joined to our current domain but it has a wrong name on it and i would like to keep everything in the same format under active directory.
Anyway is it as easy as delete the client from AD and then rejoining it as a different name back to the domain again?
Thanks

12th June 2009, 12:57 PM #2 You can rename it whilst it's on the domain if you want to keep it's location etc. (Assuming it's not RM CC3).
Would that help?

I suppose that could as long as it disappears on the AD and puts the new name to it? Would that happen?

Right click on my computer, it's under computer name iirc. (on linux atm).
Alternatively, you could join a workgroup (would dejoin it from the domain), wipe out the entry from DNS/AD if they were still there (unsure), rename the machine, reboot it, and then rejoin the domain from afresh and put it into the OU that it was in before.
With a rename all of that is taken care of.
