MovieMaker timeline problem

We cant get the timeline to play in moviemaker on xp machines (works on my Vista laptop)

tried a registry hack i found on google but still not playing files are small less that 10mb each

playes normally ( they are avi files) but if right click on timeline and click play black screen no video

Hiyah .... the main problems Iv'e had with movie maker is lack of or corrupted codecs ....

Installation of the klite codec pack has sorted most odd problems for me
