Microsoft releases stripped down Windows (code name Eiger)
This might be of interest to people converting old machines to run as thin client or might just want very small foot print version of Windows.
Microsoft have released Windows PC Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (catchy name huh?). This is a no frills version of Windows XP for creating thin clients or kiosk type systems.
Read the this article at Microsoft Watch for some background.

and download at licensing.microsoft.com if you can.
Oh yeah ...the one drawback is that it's only avaible to assurance subscribers and may be some other volume license schemes (See! There was a point to getting School Agreement).

Does the stripping down result in anything significant being 'missing'?
I notice WSUS and WiFi support being obvious ones.

According to that article, quite a bit can be missing, but as I have not tried it I don't know the full extent
