    WSUS 3.0 SP1 Reinstall

    Hi,

Reinstalled WSUS 3.0 SP1 the other day, due to the sheer amount of space consumbed by un-needed updatyes that declining and tidying up didnt seem to remove.

So, removed the program completely (freed up around 40Gb) no longer downlaoding updates for OFfice 2003 and Windows XP, all superceeded updates are tidies up nicely and there is around 15Gb free in comparison to last time.

However, now reinstalled, computers are not updating or reporting to the WSUS server at all. Settings are unchanged apart from the targeting, which i have seperated into "Clients" "Test Computers" and "Servers".

Still uses port 8530, Windows Update in group policy pointing to the same location etc...

    No joy

SimpleAuth.asmx seems to be the point it fails, permissions on the IIS website maybe? [EDIT]Or the ISUR_SERVERNAME account needs a new password?

    WindowsUpdate.log has the following

Anonymous access should be enabled along with Integrated Windows authentication.

Is there any reason why you couldn't install WSUS in the default website? Is your server actually named "WSUS-Server"?

Exchange OWA hosted on the same server, so 8530 is the alternate option in setup, server isnt actually called WSUS-SERVER it was just me replacing the actual name just incase

    Manually navigating to

    http://WSUS-SERVER:8530/SimpleAuthWe...impleAuth.asmx

Give a 401.1 error (not authorised to access)

If the permissions are correct (as I wrote above) try re-installing or repairing .NET Framework 2.0. I presume also you're using the default and recommended Windows Server Internal Database?
