Power management settings are more granular to apply with desktop authority that offers a good alternative to group policy preferences called "validation logic".
Such technology is not limited with item level targeting and can be applied on a profile level.
In addition, you're not limited with the items covered in the "Preferences" section of a group policy. "Validation logic" can be applied on a wide range of desktop management areas like drive mappings, security policies, outlook profiles configuration, firewall settings, proxy settings, folder redirection and more.
