Is there an easy way to monitor what someone is doing on a computer, without them knowing? .i.e which programs they are using, all Internet sites they're looking at etc.... Is there a piece of software that will do this?
Thanks
Jenny

You'd have to install some software on their machine first, if you can do that abtutor will work and gives you a 30 day free trial. Don't forget to install the mirror driver.
We use Dameware around the school, and have Lanschool in classrooms for teacher use.

How about VNC?
Thanks for the replies so far.... it's not for a student... I have thought about VNC but I was looking more on the lines of something free that would log the activity? ... probably asking for too much!
+1 for VNC, but it doesn't work on Vista BOOOOO!
Main Page - iTALC-Wiki
iTalc?
New version of ultra VNC does though
Download UltraVNC: Remote Support Software, Remote Support tool,Remote Desktop Control, Remote Access Software, PC Remote Control

If it is "just" network activity - a good packet analyseror your friendly local firewall/web filter should be able to give you a very good idea. For local-only stuff like word etc. - maybe securus?
Would depend on your situation really - might be easier if you can tell us who you want to monitor, and why?
Thanks I'll have a go with UltraVNC, we have Securus already ... it's to monitor someone who's not doing a lot of work... so they're not necessarily looking a dodgy websites etc... just playing games, and constantly looking at non work related websites!
We also don't have a local firewall or webfilter... that's all done at our LEA.
We use AB Tutor Control here. Allows you to take screenshots, disable internet access on demand etc. Pretty happy with it for the last couple of years and cheap too![]()

Be careful about what you log and how you do it as this may get thrown out if you are using it for disciplinary action.
You need to make sure that you at least have an AUP in place that staff agree to (via signature or within their contract) that says they may be monitored on their activity on computers.
It might be better contacting the LA for a copy of the internet logs of activity.
Try 'IMPERO' you can record what they are doing - or in this case 'not' doing!
