21st April 2009, 04:17 PM #1 Excel hyperlink issue...can't solve :(
OK!
Open excel (office 2003 pro)
In any field... I type in
"U:\_Subjects\Mathematics\10ticks NEW\ALL 10 Ticks Worksheets\Level 5 Pack 6.pdf"
trying to set a shortcut to open a PDF from within the Excel Doc.
right click my new text field and choose : hyperlink.
In the pop up dialogue box I paste the same text in to the ADDRESS box at the bottom and click OK.
My text turns blue...
If I click on it - the PDF opens correctly...
However, if I now save the document and then click on the same text...I get AN ERROR MESSAGE!!!
This states:
The address of this site is not valid. Check the address and try again.
If I edit the hyperlink the address now says:
../Staff$/_Subjects/Mathematics/10ticks%20NEW/ALL%2010%20Ticks%20Worksheets/Level%205%20Pack%206.pdf
???????????????????

21st April 2009, 04:35 PM #2 It looks like it has changed your drive to a unc address for the share. this may have taken it over the maximum length for a file address. The other option is to try and save it without an spaces (%20) in the address and see if that works

You may need to set your hyperlink base address.
On the File menu, click Properties.
Click the Summary tab.
In the Hyperlink base box, type the path you want to use.
Note You can override the hyperlink base address by using the full, or absolute, address for the hyperlink in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
Have just set this up on Excel and it works for me.

Worked for me too
Brilliant...
Passed details on to the teacher who was having the issues - hopefully it will work for him in the same way...
Cheers.
