MSI Error
We are trying to deploy MSI applications via active directory. We have succesfully done this in the past but recently nothing seems to work anymore. I keep getting the following errors.
1. On running rsop from the server end we get the following error:
Software Installation failed due to the error listed below.
There is no software installation data object in the Active Directory.
Additional information may have been logged. Review the Policy Events tab in the console or the application event log for events between 29/06/2006 12:01:54 and 29/06/2006 12:01:54
2. On the client side the events or errors indicated are :
Event ID 1085: The Group Policy client-side extension Software Installation failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.
Event ID 108: Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. Software changes could not be applied. A previous log entry with details should exist. The error was : There is no software installation data object in the Active Directory.
I have deleted and recreated msi deployment policies, I have restarted the machine several times, I have also applied the policy "always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" still the problem is not yet resolved.
would be grateful for some assistance.

Sounds like the machine cant find the source MSI, possibly a permissions error?

Re: MSI Error
I dont think its a permissions problem. This is the present situation.
Authenticated users have read access to the share and system has full access. The objects to which the gpo is applied all have read and apply group policy permissions on the gpo.

what about domain computers? Which part of the policy is it associated with, user or computer?

Re: MSI Error
computer. assigned applications. I think the authenticated users group contains both domain users and computers group and all authenticated accounts on the domain but I will add it just to try... cheers
