    Can't Copy Windows onto Laptop?

    Hope someone can help me,

I am tryin to install Windows XP Pro on to a Compaq Presario V2000 It goes through the part of setting the disk up and formating fine, then when it starts to copy the files over it says it cannot copy a file then press ESC to skip, it does it all throught the setup.
The copy of XP defo works as i have tryed it on another laptop. I have tryed another CD Rom no luck.

    Any ideas??

i've come across this, when the disk is scratched or dirty. but usually it doesn't work with any. have you tried an external drive?

I have tried 3 other XP disks and I have tried using a External DVD RW as well as the External one.

    Beat ya

I've had this before with exactly the same symptoms can't copy files, I was ready to give up on the thing when I ran a full memory scan and found the second stick of ram was faulty.

This week my Aunts pc started playing up and wouldn't boot ran memtest on it and got to over 20,000 errors in about 10 seconds.

Another vote for memory, I have this happening all the time with old PCs here. Swap out with known good stuff, and let us know. I always make sure to snap bad sticks so they don't get mistaken too.
