Which is what our Linux servers are called - The LTSP servers are Lisa, Bart, Maggie, Homer, Marge, MrBurns, Selma, and Patty. Maud, Ned and Rod (with Tod to come) are a clustered file server. Otto does the backups, Apu is my development box, Skinner is the print server and ComicBookGuy is the intranet server. There are plenty more names available if we get more servers.

For M$, the CMIS server is SV1 (server 1) and there isn't a server 2. The eportal box is rather imaginatively named eportal.

Our naming structure for severs has been after LOTR since 2000.

We have everything here from Sauron through to Aragorn

Sure this is a common one but currently we have Earth, Sun, Moon, Mars, Saturn, Titan and Mimas.

I wont go into my thought process's but they are all named for a reason relating to the place, i was bored that day

    Sort of:

    os-type-lastdigitofthe ip
    so
    xp-wks-100
    23-svr-1

For servers then you then have CNAMEs for the services
    sims > 23-svr-1

It's all a little confusing for me at the moment using:

    admin-two
    admin-four
    admin-five
    admin-six
    admin-eight

it's like security by obfuscation, very effective !

    at another place we just went for purpose e.g. W = webserver, D = Database, F = file etc. so FSvr1, DSvr2 . . .

Currently changing the previously dull CpsFileSrv1 etc. to Harry Potter theme as they are replaced.

Argus the ISA server, Flitwick the terminal server, Hermione the backup server. Severus the SIMS server coming this summer.

Saving Albus and Harry for when I replace the DCs

Wireless APs are named after Hogwarts ghosts: Myrtle, BloodyBarron, Nick etc.

I don't get to name the servers, but if I did they'd be called:
    Spike
    Jet
    Faye
    Ed
    Ein
