    Driver search path

    Is there somewhere in the registry in Windows XP where you can specifiy a specific folder for XP to look in for drivers when new hardware is plugged in?

    Yep and you can use a UNC as well for it.
    Modify the DevicePath Registry Key

    If you search for "DevicePath" in HIVESFT.INF you can set it for builds from CD's etc as well from fresh.
