I tried the codec pack again and all I got was

Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

This problem was caused by ffdshow codec, which was created by ffdshow.
ffdshow codec is a codec. A codec is software that is used to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or video. Media players and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

    any help appreciated
    thx

I got this with a brand new acer we bought for a smartboard in the junior dept. I ended up just installing vlc and showing them how to use that instead.

Ive had simmilar problems in the past. Just stopped using media player. Its shockingly rubbish anyway. I usually did a restart and tried opening from the dvd itself and it worked sometimes.

powerdvd/ realplayer/ vlc, loads of players out there you could use?
