    Shortcut problem

    Please forgive me if this sounds a bit vague but I am very confused!

    I have installed Testbase on a few machines by reaching back to a folder on the server containing the CD. (I had some issues with it and spoke to testbase support - ended up installing it this way which was fine.)
    BUT I cannot get a shortcut into the profile so that all users can see it. Normally I would go into the folder on the server, find the .exe and copy it to the desktop folder for the specified group. However, there isn't an exe in the folder as such.
    So I tried to copy the shortcut on the desktop of the machine I installed onto up onto the server but that doesnt work either - I thought it would as the path is C:\program files\testbase etc etc which is the location on the computer it came from but it still doesnt work.
    If anyone understands me, can you help?
    Please don't tell me all about the .vbs script as the powers- that- be do not want it on all the computers for their own reasons!

    It needs to look something like this:

    P:\Exampro32\Testbase32.exe K3_MATHS

    With the title of the .ext / .exl file after the executable file. Also do you have exampro.ini file within the C:\Windows folder with this sort of information?

    [RA_ICT]
    SerialNumber=*******
    Organisation=******************
    IssueNumber=11
    Licence=*************
    TextFilename=P:\Exampro32\data\RA_ICT.EXT
    LibFilename=P:\Exampro32\data\RA_ICT.EXL
    FlagResource=0
    UseResource=0

    Testbase isn't the easiest software to install and why they don't publish MSIs, I'd really love to know! When you purchase a license, it covers the whole site (which is a good licensing model).

    The way I install the software; firstly you can download the setup files from their website and save those to a share on your server. Logon to a workstation and install each file in turn. Then copy the exampro.ini file to each machine (you can use xcopy to do this). Visit another machine and it's simply a case of pressing Next > Next > Next > as all licensing information is pre-populated.

    Shortcuts are then created on both the Start Menu and Desktop, so if you have a redirected Start Menu/Desktop you should be able to copy/use these, providing you install Testbase in the default directory on each machine. Hope this helps.

    I did it this way and it worked - but the tech support line didn't even suggest it!
    Give it a go, Silver
    Just don't tell them it is on the whole network - and if you have a site licence, why not?

    i installed to a share on the server then ran the script template.vbs file provided.
    this runs the "button_b.exe" which puts shortcuts on the desktop and sets the ini file.

    if you dont want the shortcuts installed to the allusers desktop, remove them from the workstation shortcuts folder, then run the button_b.exe (vbs or other wise). you will end up with the client pc configured (licenced) and then run the apps from shortcuts on the server or launcher application (xialinks)

    hope thats clear, if not i'll try to clarify.

    I do it the same way as Michael you end up visiting each workstation but it's a quick install, total pain to setp as a network install - but then that's the story of our life isn't it?
