I've lost my XP service pk 2 disk but have have the product key.

Hi I hope that someone out there can help.

My headteacher bought 8 eee pc 701sd/linux for a mobile classroom concept and two dyslexic children to use dragon voice recognition software. But for those in the know dragon is a windows based program not linux! So i need to convert these wee beasties to windows XP I have two product keys but no XP pro service pack 2 disk.

I would be most grateful for any advice on this matter.

    Sian

    Hi Sian,

If the keys are for a retail copy of XP Pro any CD should work OK but if they are OEM (typically mentions a particular manufacturer on the COA stuck on the bottom of laptops/PCs etc that are tied to them) it's not legit to move it over onto one of the eeepc's.

If you're pretty convinced your copies aren't locked down I might have a spare CD I can post you if you want?

If your happy using .iso files and simply burning them i'm more than happy to put a .iso file on a ftp server temp for you.

Littlems... They may be good intentions you have and that you have legitimate reasons for moving XP from one machine to another, but OEM is OEM, and taking it and putting it on another machine is very much a no no.

Also, 8 netbooks and 2 product codes on your old machines makes the whole thing doubley so.

I'd strongly advise against what you are about to do and do one of the following:
    - send them back (if its possible with where you got them from and you havent opened them all up) and get ones with XP on them
    - buy 8 XP OEM media kits that have the COA with them
    - probably a better option, but contact a supplier that can provide you with open select agreement for more than 5 licenses so you might find that a option [dont have time to look at the moment]

    Regards
    Nath

I'm leaving 6 of them with linux and claiming that there is enough on them to use in a classroom.
