Sims FMS problems
Sims have been leaving messages at the school for a while now but they keep missing me and messages don't get relayed properly so I've rung them up today to be told I need to put an Icon on the bursers desktop that points at the server and I need to upgrade. They wouldn't give me any more info than that as they are useless. I've tried upgrading but I just get 'connection failed reason 0' and I haven't a clue what she meant by an icon that points at the server and neither did she apparently.
Can anyone offer any wisdom?
Cheers

24th February 2009, 11:51 AM #2 Reason 0 often points to an issue with the connect.ini
no idea about the icon

24th February 2009, 11:53 AM #3 Could be she's using the old FMS.
Try:
start | programs | SIMS Applications | FMSSQL | SIMS FMS Module.
Reason 0 is a connection failure
Check:
c:\program files\sims\fmssql\fmsconnect.ini

24th February 2009, 01:20 PM #5 By an icon that points at the server I expect they probably mean a RDP shortcut so that person can log on to the server remotely and carry out SOLUS upgrades?
Connection failed reason 0 -
either incorrect connect.ini (FMSConnect.ini in this case) or perhaps the servers firewall/antivirus is blocking the incoming connection to the SQL server.
If that doesn't resolve then next question is: Is the machine definately on the domain or is it a workaround with some drive mappings and authentication jiggery pokery?

Thanks for your replies I'm trying to use solus update on the simsserver for the fms module but upon login I get the reason 0 problem. I've found my fmsconnect.ini file and it reads:
[FMSConnection]
Server=simsserver\FMS22005
Database=ccsfms
Trusted_Connection=No
Does this make sense to anyone, looks like it's missing something to me
Also the bursar reckons the icon sims wanted me to put on the desktop was to back up the fms database to the server.

25th February 2009, 10:02 AM #8 Doesn't seem right. 2 2's? Also you have a separate SQL instance just for FMS? Shouldn't it be the same as SIMS?

I'm really not sure I'm new to this school, the servers are a mess, and I haven't really had to touch sims before, do you know how I could find out?

25th February 2009, 10:17 AM #10 Look at C:\program files\sims\sims .net\connect.ini
See what that says if it says redirect, look in the folder for connect.ini, open that.
What is the server name in there?
Do you know the SA password?

Yes I know the SA password.
There doesn't look to be the connect.ini file in the sims program files' folder but the way we have the simsroot mapped to the machines is by having a shared filed 'simsroot' on the D:. Inside simroot\sims there is a connect.ini file which reads:
[SIMSConnection]
ServerName=simsserver\SIMS
DatabaseName=SIMS

I've also just noticed another fmsconnect.ini file is also stored in d:\simsroot\sims

25th February 2009, 10:35 AM #13 Go Start | Programs | SIMS Application | dbattach
Servername: simsserver\SIMS
Username: sa
Password: whatever it is
Click login
If you select deattach dropdown list, is SIMS in the list? Is FMS?
If FMS isn't
Close dbattach and reopen this time logon with
Servername: simsserver\FMSS2005
Username: sa
Password: whatever it is
If that fails, try:
Servername: simsserver\FMS2005
Username: sa
Password: whatever it is

Thanks for that unfortunately it looks like I don't have the SA username and password
"sql server does not exist or access denied"

25th February 2009, 10:52 AM #15 If your FMS has also been upgraded to SQL2005 then your FMS database should be on the same server as SIMS, i.e. say your SIMS database is on a SQL server named simsserver\SIMS2005 and the database is named SIMS, then your FMS database is also on the same SQL server instance (named simsserver\SIMS2005) but the FMS database is named ccsfms.
