Help me recover a damaged CD

I have a scratched CD that I need to make a copy of, it fails at the same point every time on a .cab file. Ive had it polished at Gamestation but this didnt help.

I just need to make a single copy, can you give me some tips..voodoo or anything to try to just get a single copy of the CD done!

    Thanks

    Chris

If polishing it hasn't helped there's probably not a lot of hope for it... If I run into issues like this I usually try googling for the name of the cab file. Only other options are use something like Nero DriveSpeed to lower the read speed of the CD/DVD drive or one of the 'unstoppable copiers' - but all they'll do is either skip the damaged file or file the chunk they can't read with zeroes leaving you no better off than you started.

Cant you extract the cab, remove the duff file, put a replacement back in and make the CD again for yourself? Long winded but may work.

Tried googling for the name of the specific file then and repacking the cab?

The cab is called Data1.cab (helpful) and its the Gigglebies Garden Party (apparently one of the kids favourites lol).

I have managed to extract everything from the cab but one file, an mpg. Is there a way of creating a dummy file of exactly the same size?

For those who might need it, a dummy file creator just copy into cmd prompt

    fsutil file createnew c:\temp\file.txt 8808617

Might be a silly thought, but is the game/'learning experience' not now going to bomb out when it hits the point where it tries to play the non mpg mpg file? Were there no installed copies anywhere you could rescue the original mpg from?

Its only the intro movie.... I havent looked to be honest, the installer dont like the repacked cab file anyway. Its saying files are missing from the cab even tho they are there.

Gonna give up as a lost cause I think and just get them to order a new CD! lol

    Thanks All!!
