AD is used primarly for system administration but does anyone use it as... well... a directory?
Do you populate all those wierd and wonderful fields in a user record in Users and Computers snap-in.
How do you give users access to this information?

I dont think many people will fill in a lot of the fields and theres all that personal information that needs to be protected as well....
If you've got Exchange + Outlook/OWA etc.. users can see address, depts, phones... and search by some of them.
At the moment our AD is only for the kids so no we dont populate much though do poulate the "Department" field with their Year

I just un published all my printers from AD because as my printer vbs now only connects the 2 closest printers to a user a couple of my more savvy students found out they could browse the directory for printers from within the word print dialog and connect to any of them.

Cant you prevent that through Group Policy

Probably. There is just so many settings I lose track
Ben
You can also set the security on the printers' ACLs so they can't print to them via Windows.
