Got a crazy one which someone might understand.
I have a DNS server which gets updates the Host A records from DHCP in the foward lookup zone, but in the reverse lookup zone I have the same IP with a different name. When i go to ping the IP I get no reply so it is not there like the foward DNS says. So why the erronous reverse lookup.
I have scavening on and it equals my 8 day lease through DHCP
Thanks for any help

Wipe the reverse look up zone's contents and then do a dhcp release/renew and see if "new" records are created correctly.
I'd have thought scavenging would have helped mind you, but I have seen cases where forward is OK but backwards is erroneous.
Have you tried manually removing it.
I don't have a (Windows) DNS server to hand, but I though (perhaps incorrectly) that the reverse lookups where configured manually.
Are the DHCP duration settings the same?
Is scavenging turned on at the server and zone level?
Andy
