Hi all
I'm having a slight problem ... I'm making the plunge to take the school I work for to Microsoft Exchange. The school is part of the LEA which provide our net connection, and obviously we need to open ports.
I asked port 25 and 110, they didnt let me have 25 but let me have 110 (obv 25 is SMTP port). They set me up with their "Ironport spam filtering" service (their SMTP service). I have the POP3 working and recieving - but the SMTP doesn't send externally. Their tips are as follows:
1. SMTP feed to 10.22.64.3 for staff.(webaddress) has been set up.
2. Firewall access created to allow access from all addresses to 10.22.64.3 on port 110 (tcp) with public IP address (ip was here)
3. DNS records: staff.(web address) created to point towards (ip was here).
Help would be appreciated
many thanks!

hope that helps!

Good stuff as long as its fixed.
Do you use YHGFL Foundation Internet, if so I we have Exchange running on HTTP and HTTPS on lots of schools and in the Ponte / Wakefield area. No reason why it should be blocked for you? Otherwise see the method below.
An external Broadband line for our exchange, it works really well, all you need is an External line for your Broadband.
For a basic look at how this works see below.
1. Internet
2. Broadband Connection on a local Box inside school
3. AnalogueX Port mapper installed onto the box to redirect either SSL(OWA) request to a certain location on our exchange server or HTTP(Windows Integrated Forms Based) to our exchange server.
4. Exchange running both OWA and Forms Base.
Let me know if you need any more info if you decide to go down the External Line method.
