Ok, on our smaller network I've been asked to set the footer for each user within Word and Excel (Office XP) to either the pupil's username or (for preference) their full name. I've tried a couple of scripts to do this but none of them work properly. So, what I need to do is:
1. Pull username or full name from AD,
2. Set the footer in Word and Excel to the above info,
3. Apply this to both new documents and all existing documents.
Not asking for much am I... :P
I can think of a fairly easy way to read in the contents of a text file and append something to the end, but I dont know how it would handle stuff like Excel. There are settings you can use sometimes to append usernames to the footer of printed documents from Explorer but this does not seem to extend to other products as far as I have seen.
Sorry, should have added...
I'm happy for it to be a macro or script that's run when Word or Excel is opened. It only needs to add the footer to existing documents when they are opened. I think the xlstart directory is relevant for running macros or scripts when Excel is opened, but I'm not too sure.
Rob.

Doesn't the ADM for Officee do this?
Not as far as I can see for Office XP.
It's possible with Print Manager Plus if you have a spare £400![out of date price warning].
...maybe an edugeek project contender - just the printed page footer I mean.

Have you checked an earlier office ADM? - may still work in the later edition if it changes the same reg keys.
I've never seen it in PMP, but then again, I guess I havent lookedlol
I'll be lookin at the office adm's some point this hol - to further tighten the GP - so will keep it in mind (someone's bound to beat me to this one lol but I shall look)
