A friend of mine passed me a MSI copy of the latest version of VLC. I deployed this to all of the computers via GPO. My problem is that I'm not able to remove this at all. I logged in to one of the stations and tried removing it through Add/Remove programs but to no avail.
This is the error I am presented with and was wondering is there a workaround to this other than rebuilding all of the workstations.
I've also tried deleting the file in safe mode and when a station is rebooted the file re-creates itself and thus I am still unable to uninstall.
That particular error means thet the MSI was not cleaned up propperly after it was captured using a snapshot tool. The snapshot tool has also grabbed and installed another copy of the Windows update local database.
You should be able to remove this easily by stopping the "Automatic Updates" service and then uninstalling it. The DB should be recreated when the service is restarted.
You should look into clearing out any refferences to this file in the MSI if you plan to redeploy it at any point.
Erm.. I usually find that I can't uninstall apps locally when they've been deployed via AD/GPO.
I though that you had to do it via the GPO, or is it not doing it this way either ?
