I had a software package (testbase) that was deployed to the schools PC via Group policy have created a custom MSI.
because of various issuse I've had to remove remove Testbase from the deployment and set to imediatly remove any software installed.
And then like a numpty i deleted the MSI,
Then entry is removed from GPO editor, but in the computer event logs it complains about, not being able to find the MSI.....
Basicly does anyone know how I can remove any reference to software package that no longer exists from Group policy (is their a system file I can edit...)
Cheers

1st October 2008, 10:24 AM #2 Do you still need to remove the software or is it just that you want to get rid of the error messages?
if it's the former, can you put back the MSI to let it uninstall?
If it's the latter then you can use the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
This has a GUI which allows you to cleanup the installer database but it also installs MSIZap.exe which is a command line tool that does the real work.
You can use it in 2 ways - either with the Product GUID (get it from HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\uninstall) or if you have access to the MSI
Code:
msizap TWA! {product code}
msizap TWA! <msi package> Note that this doesn't uninstall the program, it just removes all info about the program from the installer database so Windows thinks it's been uninstalled. It is potentially destructive so use with care!!

The Uninstall tool wouldn't remove the references in the GPO though would it? thats what I would really like to do
