    Broadband speed tester

    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a free utility for testing your broadband speed?

I've tried a few websites, but they seem to all give different readings.
one was telling me 4mb download speeds another was telling me just 1mb.

I used to use Andrews & Arnold Ltd - Broadband speed test but mainly 'cause of the URL, speedtest.net is better and more efficient.

Hmm.. sod.ms have changed their site... booh..

I'd sooner tell you to goto Zen Internet - Test Files and download one of their 100mb test files.

I downloaded Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test.

Seems to be able to do detailed tests and gives accurate readings.

Login to your router via the web gui and then on the stats should be line synch and that should tell you what speed your connected at in kbps ie 13000 kbps or w/e

the line sync is the speed you're connected to the exchange at but this isn't necessarily the same as the speed through your isp.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Which I believe was mentioned above but I never really trust them 100%

Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed

Tests accurately up to 50Mb (and maybe faster) which some do not. Which i found after joining VMs 50Mb service.

Speedtest.net and isposure - Finding the fastest ISP in your area (requires installation) have always agreed with each other for me.
